Oscars 2018 And Everything Around Them

March 05, 2018

It is very interesting how, every year, the vibe of the Oscars collects the energy from the red carpet, at first, then from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, and finally from the people across the globe just to spread it out into the universe as a form of celebration. Of art.

This year, it wasn’t about a specific movie, actor, actress, movement, button, race, selfie. *Political moments tried to squeeze in from time to time, though.* It was about a sort of vibe that, just like an animated character, moved throughout and did the little things.

…The magic?

It was not even about the glitter or a certain color; there was obviously black, lots of white, blush tones, silver, a little bit of red, grey and some… Outlaws. A word used in the most admiring and inspiring way possible, a word that lights up a firework for all of us – dreamers, a word that makes the beautiful world we dream about possible, a word that in this case is synonymous with elegant.

It was about a vibe that seemed to have come from the actors and actresses wearing the clothes they liked – on one hand – and from the very few that hadn’t even thought about liking or not the clothes they wore, on the other hand. ***Hey, why wouldn’t you?***

Liked:

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. The best JLaw look on JLaw so far. No?
Margot Robbie in Chanel with mom. Can you hear the bells of cuteness dinging?
Ding, ding, ding! Via Viola Davis.
Clink, clink, clink. Olivia Wilde.
Double clink, clink, clink.
Jordan Peele.
Nicole Kidman.
Nicey. Gal Gadot.
St. Vincent, je ne sais quoi. Je sais quoi.
Yoohooo!
Angela Besset and her assets.
Taraji P. Henson and her smile.
Saoirse Ronan thinks pink.
Emily Blunt in Schiaparelli.
Doug Jones. Yet never forget to always unbutton the bottom button. Try to read that fast.
Maya Rudolph in rrred.
Christopher Plummer all elegant and smiling, “wearing some old thing he’d pulled out of his closet”.

? Outlaws. ?

The women with style (synonymous with ELEGANCE) never age. There’s no particular age at which one must opt out of fashion or ever give up the pleasure of enjoying it as long as one knows. Loves. Has fun.

Whoopi Golberg in Christian Siriano and shadezzzzz.
Helen Mirren in beautifully draped Reem Acra. Rrr.
Agnes Varda in Gucci.
Jane Fonda in Balmain.
Rita Moreno!!!

Didn’t think about liking or not. ***Why not?***

Emma Stone, why? One doesn’t have to win an Oscar in order for one to look like the best version of oneself.

Meryl Streep looks good and Meryl Streep is, well, Meryl Streep and the sky is blue and everything, but I don’t know if she ever really thinks about her liking or not what she wears. But Meryl Streep is Meryl Streep and the sky is blue.

Meryl Streep in Dior.

So it started on the red carpet and then it moved inside.

The vibe in the theatre built up from the attitude and actions, from the human energy rather than the stars. With hands holding, hugs, with Nicole Kidman crashing an interview with Sandra Bullock on ABC just for a hug and a declaration of affection, Rita Moreno wearing the same dress she wore at the Oscars 56 years ago, jumps, Helen Mirren’s shot, Gary Oldman telling his mom to put the kettle on, [he’s] briging the Oscar, Uggs takeover, with Jimmy Kimmel being nervous all night due to envelope fiasco exchange last year.

Gal Gadot and Margot Robbie.
Greta Gerwig and Laura Dern.
Group huuug.
Some very cool ladies.
Rita Moreno 1962.
Rita Moreno 2018. “The dress was made from a Japanese obi and it hasn’t tarnished at all.”
Party girl.
Another party girl.
I hope he had a delicious tea with his mom post Oscars.
Sweet. Dude. Sweet. Dude.

Fashion is a very good way to allow one to be who one wants to be and it seems like this year, at the 90th Oscars, the clothes made personal statements about who the actors and actresses are and how they see themselves and how they want to be seen by the world. And this is when thinking about what one likes and what one doesn’t comes in. We can’t run away from it and that’s great! Even though it’s nor political, nor social activism. It’s sincere, deep, serious, fun.

And then, political or not, social activism or not, the vibe that floated throughout [the world] was:

Group hug?
