Olivia Wilde + Jason Sudeikis versus Emily Blunt + John Krasinski
This is either an excuse to both put out in the world and put together some of the very nice work these four actors have done or a means for you not go through the same rollercoaster ride I go through each time I have to put a face to any of the names above. And not mix the couples up. And spell correctly. When – newsflash – they even look alike. Wait, there’s more! Their names even look alike.
Yet I love a good rollercoaster. Hop on!
Life Itself (in theatres now) made me want to hug her and high-five her. Not quite sure about the order. Again! I think I would first high-five and then hug her, though the first option sounds pretty cool, too. Life Itself also made me not trust imdb.com that much any more and I haven’t been a rottentomatoes.com fan ever anyway, so I am just going to continue to NOT watch any trailer before and not caring too much about scores either after seeing a movie.
However, the thumbs up emoji is knocking at their party’s door. It’s here to celebrate Olivia’s evolving style.
Olivia Wilde is Jason Sudeikis’ fiancé and they have 2 kids, yaay.
His dance move on SNL is forever stuck on my retina (as is the What’s Up With That song in my eardrums) and I don’t know whether for an actor it’s better in life to act in 100 movies or just have this one move that all the people from around the globe instantly recognise him by and feel like home? Well, maybe not home, but you know what I mean when, for instance:
1. you hear 🥁 tantadaraaaaaam 🥁 the 20th Century Fox soundtrack coming in:
2. you see the MTV logo here and there…
What is the name of this feeling? It’s not nostalgia either. It’s identity, but that’s not a feeling. Yet nor is confusing partners, names, order in couples, hello!
What I go to first every time I am going through all of the films in my mind I know her from (as opposed to all of the films I know Olivia Wilde from) is Sicario. A movie by one one of my favourite directors lately, Denis Villeneuve who also did Enemy (starring Jake Gyllenhaal) and who I sometimes confuse with Jean-Marc Vallée (who is also one of my favourites lately) who also did Demolition (starring Jake Gyllenhaal). They – even – are both Canadian.
Welcome to my world!
Emily Blunt, Emily Blunt.
Is pretty cool and had gone under some styling transformation herself and we could not but high-five her also.
Emily Blunt is married to 🥁 John Krasinski 🥁 and they have two children 🥁 also 🥁 yaay!
The nice guy from The Office, a mockumentary on a group of typical office workers, where the workday consists of ego clashes, inappropriate behavior and tedium, says imdb. If only offices would be this much fun, a whole lotta people would start to love offices all over again. But then I don’t think Steve Carell would drop his actor career to be the boss of all the offices all around the world.
Anyway or by the way, MTV was first launched on a Saturday, August 1, 1981, with the phrase Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll! and the first music video played on MTV was Video Killed the Radio Star, by The Bugles.
Does anyone still believe in random?
Style is when one owns it and doesn’t let anything stay in the way of one’s own music. The more one knows oneself, the nicer the things one does are and harmony becomes the 🏎 driver 🏎 of the one who always remembers of what being a 🏎 baby 🏎 is like.
Style is a ride to truth and truth is permanent and then everything else falls by the wayside. The ride might be long and bumpy, but it’s one of the most beautiful rides ever! A cinematic joyride, both in life and Baby Driver, directed by Edgar Wright.
One might not get it right the first time, nor the second. The fact, however, that one is at about 70 or 10% of the ride, lights up the ride so brightly that one can actually see the light at the end of it and want to feel it. I am smiling, too, as I’m writing this. And then even magic comes in and when you think you’re done, in fact you have just begun.
Vroom-vroom. Baby Driver is superb, vroom.
Who thinks Baby Driver is just too romantic, who has never been in love.
The first time I saw it, I didn’t quite pay attention to it. I learned to understand that, sometimes, when something super natural happens, it’s very often that one doesn’t even process it all because the only thing one does, in that very moment, is just live and stop thinking.
There’s a moment in life when you feel you start to live.
The second time around, though, when I realised what I’d seen the first time, it literally blew my mind as only a specific kind of things do. Actually, this kind of things start to happen the moment you think you’re done and in fact you’ve just begun. To have fun with your style.
The style Baby – Ansel Elgort – has in Baby Driver might seem so simple it might not even seem worth mentioning and, yet, is everything. Style might refer to clothes in the first place, but then, style means every single thing we do and how we do, say and how we say. It’s attitude and attitude can never be taken away from one. Nor imitated by some, nor faked by one.
Shall we dance? Yes.
Toast to the Universe? Oh, baby!
Too bad Kevin Spacey ruined our party a bit. Luckily, we all found out about the thing one is not ever supposed to do after Baby Driver had happened and – luckily yet again – after – thank Goodness! – American Beauty had happened.
A movie is all about attitude and attitude is style and style is about clothes also. The way the Universe works is magic. Nice, neat jackets, clean cut denim, crisp, cool t-shirts, fresh hair, colours, attentively built characters. No noise, just music.
Speaking of music, have you ever thought of your lucky songs? I have after seeing Baby Driver. I knew what songs create special wavebands in me no matter the weather or place, yet haven’t considered them to be my lucky ones. I do now.
Is this a proposition for you to watch the film? Yes. Is this an invitation to a date with your style? Could be. Is this a reminder for us to open our eyes and see that some of our most important days in our lives begin and we are not even there to see it? Probably. But that’s life and it has its magic ways.
Or, you know, Baby Driver just inspired me the way only a specific kind of things do.
When it’s pretty gloomy, yet all you wish for is a little bit of sunshine, wear a mini skirt and there’s a big chance for the sunshine to come out of nowhere on a fall day. And then the sunshine in fall feels pretty sensual somehow. Precisely the feeling whilst in a skirt. Or dress.
Yet maybe there won’t be any sunshine, but your skirt will remind you all day long of the sunshine you have in mind and wish for. And then, when the sun is high up and feels like it’s playing with your mind, it won’t even matter what you’ll be wearing. You wished for it way too much whilst in the skirt for it to matter what you’re wearing anyway.
However, doesn’t a skirt in fall, though, feel like an imaginary hand that rises high up to the sky and drags the sun out of the clouds or something?
My first intention was to wear it with the biker black leather jacket, yet the corduroy beige jacket I wore went 🤝 hand in hand 🤝 with the corduroy flowers skirt, even though no one could tell the skirt is corduroy and there might be some mathcy-matchy involved there, even though matching is rarely my thing. But 1. the no one can tell rules, 2. who cares, anyway? and 3. I know. And then when you come closer, you’ll know, too and say Hmmm… Like a very funny friend of mine says when we feel each other’s fabrics. Yes, friends do that. Friends who like textures, clothes, food.
Sometimes, nevertheless, when matching involves a pretty weird colour to me, like this petrol turquoise I noticed in my wardrobe connecting from skirt to hoodie and even sneakers, it felt like… I might do this crazy, weird little thing as matching. It felt kind of fresh hence the match and the colour. I can not say I totally felt it like a thing that got me rollercoaster riding or a thing that felt like I might start doing from now on, yet it felt pretty fresh and there are days when freshness is what we crave for on a fall day.
I also liked the clash with the orange stripe in the black Sonia Rykiel bag. And loved to share the power of a flower with mom (wearing an already vintage h&m jacket she’s always liked more than I had when I’d worn it).
Have I just said hand in hand earlier? Yup, I guess I did. The skirt just grabbed the sun by the hand.
Is an expression for finishing it up, yet we can not but start it now. Wearing warm clothes for cold weather, because fall is here to stay and winter will be here, no doubt, to slay. Wear a coat, basically.
Pyjamas-wear, referred to both as clothing and #mood continues this fall/winter 2018/2019 season through this bathrobe-wear kind of outwear. Moving slowly, but surely from bedroom to bathroom feels only natural. Is there someone out there who doesn’t enjoy (to say the least) a hot bubble bath on a cold evening after a cold day? Didn’t think so. The snug into the most luscious bathrobe afterwards is the most warmest embrace fashion could ever give us!
Wait. Let’s refer to the hugging, luscious bathrobe as clothes rather than fashion as the word itself – clothes – feels closer to our skin than fashion does. Clothes were here first, then fashion happened. If ever for some of us. Don’t roll your eyes. Fashion did happen, is happening as we speak, in fact! You must be wearing some sort of outwear. Busted!
The question is Do we want to take a piece of our bathroom into the world or not? I guess it depends on how much we like our bathroom.
Next thing you know, we’ll be caring our homes all together all over the place with us because this is how much we will start to love the indoors versus the outdoors if the world won’t stop for a minute and reconsider global warming, human interaction, waste, lgbqt, right versus wrong, natural versus superficial, love.
Because meditation is pretty cool whilst a bubble bath. Just like hugs are. Or laughs.
Only the ones you really, really like, hey! Faq the trend if the trend is not you because hey, only you can be you, youhoo! You get the dafaq in the What Are The Sneakers Dafaq To Wear These Days?. It’s this pressure of wearing a specific kind of sneakers these days, when, in fact, sneakers are all about fun and comfort. Please consider pressure in the previous phrase as a synonym for trend.
For comfort and fun sneakers were invented in the first place and only many years later reinvented by the global fashion scene. We have been throwing parties ever since. When a trend that’s really good for most of the planet becomes a fashion international trend, it’s a cause for celebration. And through celebration only should a trend become a trend. Chin-chin?
When it does some sort of good to the world also. Chin-chin!
Yet, instead of people actually taking the time and figuring out exactly what pair os sneakers defines them better, people – most of the times – just dive into what the whole majority of the rest of the people is wearing. Doing. Etc. Losing their sense of style or, moreover, individuality. Of course, life is not only about that. Not only, but it is, nevertheless, about it also.
Individuality – always a cause for celebration.
Trends are for a majority of people trying to kind of look the same. But why? Isn’t special what is actually special in each and every one of us special? Trends are cool and established as trends for a reason – hopefully. A reason higher than manipulation only. A reason for comfort and fun.
Maybe special isn’t what everyone wants and that’s fine, because everyone should be able to want and do whatever everyone wants, right? And everyone is definitely not one and one is definitely not everyone.
Still, what do you want?
These are the sneakers showcased by the big fashion houses for the Fall/Winter 2018/2019.
See whether your picks:
Sneakers have replaced stilettos as the staple of off-the-runway chic also and #streetstyle during fashion weeks is the window to the future, to the upcoming season, to the next fashion trends. These are the sneakers worn during the fashion weeks this last September.
Some more of #fw2019 #streetstyle:
Sneakers straight off the runways of the Spring/Summer 2019 Fashion Weeks are below and the trend that combines them all into one… Well, there is none. #youdoyou
Now you do you:
However, the sneakers the whole world seems to run around and while running around in, are even called the best ugly sneakers are:
Why though? Are you the whole world? Is the whole world you? Are you you? Oh, you simply like these sneakers? Oh, ok, nothing wrong with that then. As long as you really, really like them. Do you really, really like them? Ok, ok, just making sure. As long as #youdoyou. Yooou (the Robert de Niro tone and look).
Now this is quite a vision. Just imagine Batman sipping on his Piña Colada in the Caribbean or riding some rollercoaster in Port Aventura (Barcelona) or dancing in the club post dancing at home with friends by his own disco ball. The latter Batman is myself enjoying a bodysuit I wouldn’t normally wear on a Wednesday and dreaming about the first two.
But a bodysuit I would definitely wear for Halloween.
In the role of the first two sipping and riding is Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. I dream about the part of sipping and riding, obviously, am in awe of the artistic action, yet wish for each of us to want to be Batman in his own kind of Gotham.
It is unanimously believed that kids enjoy costuming more than adults do, but could it possibly be true? I don’t think so. Kids enjoy everything anyway because that’s what kids do. Adults, on the other hand, can’t just randomly get out of the house dressed as unicorns or Dracula.
When thinking of disguising, Jerry Seinfeld’s bit on Superman comes to mind every single time.
The idea of wearing Superman’s pyjama is quite a drill, though. I would anytime use any excuse to wear pjs, hence I have been infusing pjs vibes within my style for as long as I can remember. Super fit clothes to me, however, embody what Halloween costumes stand for.
So, it only made sense for me to wear JLo’s bodysuit. Wait, wait. Wait up! I bought myself – when picking up pumpkins with my 4 and 5 year old nieces – a black velvet cape just in case I needed a costume. Batman had already been on my mind since I randomly ran into some fun Batman glasses a while ago.
Yet what about the costume?
I went to a costume shop. A true male Batman costume would have definitely made me feel like kid Seinfeld did in Superman. Was that my chance to wear Batman’s pyjamas? Oh, maaan! Speaking of men, I didn’t necessarily intend on a superhero male Halloween costume, but those hip glasses have been screaming from my wardrobe for quite some time now. I have, nevertheless, only wore them at home, since I found a real Batgirl mask to wear. A Batgirl mask, yet not a Batgirl costume. Girl! And this is where JLo came in, did the trick with her bodysuit and made me forget about the cape. Oh, girl!
Who would have thought there is a JLo costume for rent after all? For any kind of character to get into the rental costume shop is not a small thing to achieve, I think. Anyway, I had to follow my Batman costume construction. Black leggings were too JLo-wy and Christopher Nolan’s Batman has too much mysterious elegance going on around him at all times for me to be butt naked as Batwoman or something.
So I wore my black flared jeans underneath. Flares always have some kind of… Something going on. A little mysterious party on their own. One party for each foot.
And Halloween is about partying more than it is about scaring or eating candy, right? When have grown ups forgotten to enjoy everything just like kids do? Ask them next time you see them.
A rollercoaster has just been mentioned above, these days I’m reading George Saunders’ The Braindead Megaphone, fun is always on my mind, I went to the Wild Wadi waterpark in Dubai like ten years ago, so it only made sense to leave this passage here:
Then the Navy Guys notice the Glowering Muttering Arabs, and it gets weirdly tense there in line. Luckily, it’s my turn to awkwardly blop into a tube, and off I go.
This ride involves a series of tremendous water jets that blast you, on your tube, to the top of Wild Wadi, where your recently purchased swim trunks having been driven up your rear by the jets, you pause, looking out over the entire city – the miles of stone-white villas, the Burj Al Arab (sail-shaped, iconic, the world’s only seven-star hotel) out in the green-blue bay – just before you fly down so fast that you momentarily fear the next morning’s headline will read “Middle-aged American Dies in Freak Waterslide Mishap; Bathing Suit Found Far Up Ass.”
Be that as it may, in my tube at Wild Wadi, I have a mini-epiphany: given enough time, I realize, statistically, despite what it may look like at any given moment, we will all be brothers. All differences will be bred out. There will be no pure Arab, no pure Jew, no pure American American. The old dividers – nation, race, religion – will be overpowered by crossbreeding and by our mass media, our world Culture o’Enjoyment.
Look what just happened here: hatred and tension were defused by Sudden Fun.
We, the New People, desire Fun and the Good Things of Life, and through Fun, we will be saved.
Girls, this is for you just as much as it is for you, boys. A song that seemed to had been written by Shawn Mendes for his crush came out in the classroom as a song that celebrates fun isn’t fun unless it’s authentic and authentic means fireworks. Man, do Jimmy Fallon and #forevercrush work so good together in a sentence or what? But woman, isn’t song-Shawn-Mendes-crush-classroom-fun-authentic-fireworks-Jimmy-Fallon-and-forever all we’ve ever wanted?
And it all orchestrated by The Roots.
Why for you, boys also? Because why not! The song might just as well be for you, but I know you and you wouldn’t admit of even dreaming of it. Let’s just take a close look at the guy right behind Jimmy. Pretty sceptical and barely moving in the beginning, yet really into it by the end, singing and dancing. I bet you, in front of the computer or with your phone in hand are pretty much the same. Busteeed.
I admit I must have watched the video for as many times as guys in this video and the fun I had doing it is close to riding a chill rollercoaster on a Spring or Autumn day. Either a short rollercoaster I ride on and on again, no cue or anything ✨ bliss ✨ or a really long rollercoaster surrounding the whole amusement park with trees, waterfalls, sun around 3 p.m., smiling people all around, ups and downs, a spin here, a spin there.
We’re riding. Love everywhere. And now the boys go awwww. But I know you, relax, we all dream of it and what would be the fun without it?
The video starts easy, everyone aside from Shawn dressed in black and being very cool at that. All focused on their classroom instruments. But then minute 1:00 hits and Jimmy strikes a note. Shawn bursts a ✨ so ✨ genuine smile it actually turns air into fireworks. Take a look at our guy behind Jimmy, he’s our rollercoaster emoji throughout.
By now, Questlove is tapping his mate’s head, the gentleman with the piano in his mouth is laughing, we’re all set.
The seatbelt is on.
This classroom word is not for nothing here. It’s everything. We all went to being kids for a bit. If you are not smiling by now, play the video 7 more times and you will. Hey, hey, hey, don’t leave, do it!
FYI: Jimmy Fallon is 45, Shawn Mendes is 20 (I’m only saying this to prove a something) and they seem to have the (same) time of their lives. Chemistry always plays a part, #foreverkids is one of the best grown ups’ hashtags ever and the rhythm is forever.
And so is style!
All but Shawn are dressed in black and black might be common, yet the ways people use it can be so different that it totally differentiates one black item from another as to figure out style of each individual. Please observe below, it’s all in the little things. Which are never little, we know, we know.
On to the next.
Just like nature and human nature are. Hallelujah!
Comfort became a word worldwide attached to clothes and we could not be happier since we are 🥁 here 🥁. We say happier upon us having been happy already due to the word’s first ever meaning: a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint, the easing or alleviation of a person’s feelings of grief or distress (according to dictionary.com).
Love is the va-va-voom (according to our imagination)!
I’d just got to the mountains with the family and Love At First Sight began.
I knew the kind of weekend it was going to be from the moment we all decided to go. This summer’s last official weekend with the family at the mountains, somewhere far away from any kind of noise, traffic or even internet. What? Yes.
And dance the whole time through. In my imagination, at least.
Comfort all over the place and onto one’s face. It only rhymed, but it’s actually not far from the truth. The face only belonged to the sun and the moon. The body was only covered by the comfiest clothes I have been wearing for years, clothes I don’t mind wrinkling or getting messy in, clothes I thought of turning into loungewear, but still haven’t. It’s for these kind of occasions, but also for the nights out and about whenever I feel like lounging wherever I go through town.
1. I keep on putting these shorts into the giveaway pile, yet they somehow get into my outfits. With sneakers and neon orange striped t-shirt on (below), with black sandals and top on a night out on, with greek nude sandals and hoodie whenever on.
Nature, human nature, hello?
Upon our arrival, I turned the VH1 on and the Summer Lovin’ Top 100 was on. Love At First Sight was just on! The outfit and set-up in the video may look pretty tech and all at first, but its warm vibe is everything the weekend was about. This song has always, in fact, been about what life is all about. About style also and style is timeless.
Just like this song and video are. Hallelujah!
2. These pants I left in the house in the mountains, the house it wouldn’t all be the same without. The pants will always feel comfy there and a simple crop top will always do the trick. Just as the waist belt will. Just as the hat. Since we’re talking here about always, will we ever get out of the Birkenstocks?
It’s this feeling that makes you wanna knock your head against the walls and dance. Precisely the activities done throughout this weekend. Kylie did them on stairs. Myself did them through trees and stars at night, flowers and clouds in the afternoon, under the full moon and mild-mountain-like sun, with delicious food and red wine. And family, oh yeah (oh yeah the Batman voice!).
Breathe, the summer is not over yet!
3. This dress not only makes me feel like I’m naked, but most of the times almost gets me naked. It’s strapless and I just literally throw it on and off of me. Thank God for the bandana! This red one is close friends with the pink one from above.
Above, sky high.
One fine day may very well be referred to as one fine life in terms of an outfit that one might wear not only one day, but throughout an entire lifetime. A single day that feels like a lifetime. A lifetime that feels like a day. An outfit that feels like a lifetime.
Michelle Pfeiffer is a single mom of a boy. George Clooney is a single dad of a girl. They meet in the morning and, well, figure out a lot of stuff until the night. We figure out a lot of stuff, too, when paying attention to Michelle’s outfit in particular from the beginning until the end of the movie. The rest of the crew is just as strong, nevertheless, as they are all together part, in the end, of a style that completes the story of it all.
And form that synergy we all crave for in movies, art in general.
Or is it life?
So we see Michelle Pfeiffer, an architect, in the morning, in clothes that make up 🥁 style 🥁 and we know style is timeless. A beautifully tailored brown suit, an elegantly buttoned-up white shirt, sheer black tights, a perfectly hued beige oversized trench coat, shoes that could very easily pass for Céline, a smooth, paisley-printed, sweet vest and hair that would make French women cut their hair and dye it blonde.
The way she looks, smiles, talks, walks is obviously part of the attitude a style would not even be worth mentioning without. It’s Michelle Pfeiffer after all, hello.
Now this all is just right and when something is right, something most of the times feels right, but when something feels va-va-voom, that is when something is va-va-voom and isn’t the va-va-voom we all yearn for in life? It’s the cherry on the synergy. It’s the salted caramel we’re surprised to find in the middle of an already delicious ice-cream. It’s the fun lining we discover in an already special jacket. It’s one secret smile we discover in a person we’d already liked a lot. It’s the perfect twist we hear in a song we’d been already dancing on like there’s no tomorrow.
It’s the surprise element life always has us popping up champagne for.
The dinosaur t-shirt Michelle Pfeiffer – for some reason, saying Michelle solely instead of Michelle Pfeiffer doesn’t seem to have the same effect, no? – wears upon her son spilling juice on that elegantly buttoned-up white shirt is the va-va-voom in the outfit from One Fine Day. Wearing it underneath that smooth, now dots-printed, sweet vest and that beautifully tailored brown suit to coffee is one thing, yet wearing it to a business meeting upon running through the city in it is a way cooler thing very few could get away with.
It all becomes a walking party the moment she wears the red, oversized coat that looks like future legacy.
And this is not only how one craves for cherries (or ice-cream for that matter), but also how a stylish outfit, firstly, becomes unique and, secondly, the souvenir of that one fine day that started the one fine life.
You know when you like something so much that you want to draw it? But not because you’re a fan, but because of the way it makes you feel? A reminder for you to salute the alien in you, have a drink or two and toast for you simply doing you. That’s a simple moment of Justice.
A bit of rock, a bit of pop, a bit of disco, a bit of unlike anything you have seen before. I mean, you have seen jeans, leather jackets, prints, cool hair, blacks and colors and you have heard techno before. It all seems so simple. But you also know that it only seems simple on the outside when, in fact, it’s super complex, studied and honest on the inside.
And when the inside meets the outside in every way – through attitude, music, clothes, soul, beliefs, mind, eyes, art, smile, body moves – style comes along and starts to dance to its own music. This is Justice, the French duo that is out and about for fifteen years and they like the stuff they make.
Back at parties 10 years ago – when I was dancing like there was no tomorrow on this particular tune with friends I used to hang out with especially when off again with my then boyfriend – little did I know that I would be, yet ten years later here, writing about the band whose concert this summer those friends were also there for. Post having gone to their show at Summer Well Festival and, obviously, danced like there was no tomorrow. When We are your friends began, I thought to myself Wow, these are the guys I used to enjoy so much back in the days. It was also the song that made them find their place into the musical landscape, as Xavier had said.
Once cool, always cool and I guess dreams do come true.
They have this thing. This curious thing. It must come from deep within them for it to, afterwards, be released into the crowd. At their concert, at some point I danced and I danced. All of a sudden, I just stood and watched the show, listened to their thing; it is a thing there! I was so good with just standing, watching, listening. But then all of a sudden again, found myself yet again with my hands in the air, dancing like it had just begun, smiling, winking at the friends I was with and we were all dancing. All over again.
💥💥 The energy it creates! 💥💥
So simple, so nice. Then you stop again and watch. Lose yourself; this is the thing they put you into.
An interviewer put it like this: When we listen to the album [Woman], we feel like we’re following a man, alone, on his way to a party, but then he leaves alone. But the guy experiences a lot of emotions. Getting enthusiastic… And there’s this song called Alakazam… It’s like this moment when you’re alone and your head is spinning, you’re wondering if you should stay or leave, if you should stay or leave, you finally choose to stay, but nothing really happens. Xavier then adds: And everything turns into a nightmare, you’ve drunk too much alcohol, but in the end, you’re feeling better. You see a girl and think maybe it’s gonna work out and in your last attempt, you fail and you go back home alone. That’s the idea.
They had both studied graphic design due to the fact that, at the time, they’d had no idea what they wanted to do with their lives and there had not been a lot of very exciting things offered during the school years. You don’t need to know how to draw to do graphics, but if you have a little taste and you know where you’re going, you can get your own way, you can make illusion, as Gaspar puts it.
Xavier answers: In fact it’s not so much the problem of making illusion or not. We especially managed to find a domain which works for us, because it’s more a question of sensitivity and work than really pure technique.
When you do electronic music, you don’t have to necessarily have electronic background or exclusive electronic inspiration at all times from it. Inspiration may come from whatever, whoever, wherever and whenever. Rock and pop included. Just like with everything, in fact. And then, when you make electronic music, for instance, the music becomes the place for you to mix the dreams and ideas in your head. And then something really original comes out. Outside the box, that is.
It’s the intimate lifestyle while creating – without even realising – the style. A style so simple that looks like one everyone could copy, yet no one can. It comes from their inspiration, their soul, their mind. The style becomes unique and the good news is that everyone is unique.
7 billion styles.
We make simple music that delivers simple emotions, is what the French duo says.
Justice is a French electronic dance music duo consisting of Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé.
When in one word, Gaspard was asked to describe his music, he said romantic (with a French accent, of course).
When Gaspard was asked who his hero was, he said Xavier.
When Xavier was asked who his hero was, he said Gaspard.
Their chemistry is just as romantic. It seems like with every interview, they have this vibe that feels like just being next to each other is enough and they have everything. It’s simple, fun and cool; precisely the reason behind the love they express on and off the stage. And in music. It’s like an honest game kids play.
And that hair!
PS: May it be a coincidence myself getting a red bomber jacket this last spring to wear in the upcoming fall? Only in time for me to be writing this in summer?
Only God knows.
A Cross The Universe is the culmination of Justice’s 18 month world tour. It includes an audio CD of their phenomenal live set including the anthems D.A.N.C.E , We Are Your Friends, DVNO and many others,⚡️plus a DVD ⚡️ of the hour long film by Romain Gavras and So Me, documenting the French duo’s US tour.
WOMAN (their latest album).
… Is Amazon’s description of my latest basket with them. Whoohoop!
And I Can not wait to go to their concert again!
Lauryn Hill has a style one watches from afar, admires, throws a party to the eyes that want to see for, yet could never imitate. It comes from her inside and the inside is just as personal as style is.
Style is not about super original combinations, more than three colours mixes or constant thrive for exposure or expression. Think of Emmanuelle Alt. It can be Hill, it can be Alt, it can be both, it can be whatever as long as it’s yours.
Browsing through the official fan page of Lauryn Hill’s Instagram account – only! – feels like observing a piece of art. A movie, a song, a video, a picture, a painting, a poem, anything that inspires the heart to be creative about. She’s inspiring, but she inspires without making a purpose out of it and Instagram can not even come anywhere close to who Lauryn Hill has been over the years or to who we have been privileged to get a glimpse of throughout the years.
I remember being a kid in the nineties, my brother always turning on the volume when The Fugees were on tv and myself staring at the always fabulously dressed trio running around the town that then seemed as if from another planet in Fu-Gee-La or throwing popcorn at each other in Killing Me Softly. It was 1996.
You grow style in life just as you grow in life. You grow yourself just as you grow your style. That is if you want to grow and subconsciously have been doing it anyway.
Lauryn, baby, use your head, but instead I chose to use my heart, Jay-Z quotes upon Lauryn Hill’s Zion.
In 1998, when Everything is Everything aired, I remember feeling content of already having known Lauryn Hill from her Fugees years and also being in awe at her sight. She was wearing bright pink and blue jeans. To the day, 20 years later, whenever I see the bright pink and blue jeans combo I think of the video.
Her attitude in Doo-Wop (That Thing) while dancing and rapping in a pale yellow mini dress and jeans shirt as opposed to the 60s’ look. No matter the clothes, accessories and hair, her eyes and presence are all about something that always came from within in the first place, and only after from the anything that has ever covered her. Just as with Emmanuelle is.
Lauryn’s rhythm and silhouette in gracefully flowing whites, deep blues and (those!) brown leather super-flared trousers in Ex-Factor come up in looks that are timeless. Style is timeless.
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was her first solo album and when I saw on MTV, yet later on in 2001, the MTV Unplugged 2.0, I felt, yet again, the impact art can have on us throughout our entire lives and the beauty of us – us and the artists we love – growing together. Of experiencing life. Of, one day, getting to live the Ex-Factor, but also the Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, something we fantasised about when being children and, now come to realise, when being adults also.
In 2017, I wrote about her 🥁 here 🥁. Life, it gets you places.
One can see how Lauryn enjoys clothes and you can see how Emmanuelle does it, too. In both their personal and professional lives. Style. Elegance. In both personal and professional life.
